E-News from Tom: 04/16/10

Hello E-News Friends,

I hope you have been trying to think more about God this week. Maybe some of you have rolled out of bed knee-first or looked at the flowers as a revelation of God’s beauty and creativity. I have seen many pretty purple flowers this week that reminded me of God’s majesty. My week has also found me keenly aware of God in two other extremes. I was at a funeral where thoughts of Him were packed with questions and gratitude, and in prayer as a good friend (Clarissa) was giving birth to a little baby girl (Allyson, 5lbs 8 oz).

Our awareness of God in our everyday life is very important to our trusting and obeying Him with our everyday life. He is worthy of our faith. I encourage each of you to continue to seek Him out daily. He will show up, in oftentimes still, quiet ways. Your walk with Him in this life will grow as He does. May I remind you (and myself) that He loves you very much! I thank Him for His love that culminated with His Son dying for our sin.

I hope you can make services this week at Oak Bridge. We will here a powerful story of a man who is constantly aware of God and what this means to his life. You won’t want to miss it; I can promise you that! Honor God with your time this Sunday. It is always a great choice!

Time to go mow the lawn and remember the God of creation as I do! Hope to see you (and your friends) this Sunday.

In His Grace,
Tom

PS Make sure you sign-up for Married Life Live on April 25. It will be a great evening of fun! Toolbox starts back up Wednesday, April 21, as well!

E-News from Tom: 04/09/10

Hello E-News Friends,

This week we will all learn a new song together. For me it has quickly become one of my all-time favorites. It is the kind of song that has the ability to stay in your mind and heart. I say that as a good thing. Our lives certainly benefit the more we are aware of God in our daily lives. The chorus is: “Our God is greater, our God is stronger, God you are higher than any other. Our God is healer, awesome in power, our God.”

As I silently sing (you should be glad it is silently) those words, I ask myself if I live as if those words are really true. Do I trust this great awesome God with my life? Not just my eternity but my each and everyday life. Do I trust Him enough to follow His Son? To forgive, love, be humble, seek truth, have patience, grow in wisdom, and gratitude as Jesus did. That is a great question to ask yourself. It is a “heart-check” type of question.

The name of the song is “Our God.” I think you will move it into your “Fav 5” as well. I hope it causes you to think of the same questions it has me. I am looking forward to the great Healer doing some renovation on the parts of my heart that need some help. Maybe you will let Him do the same for you. It is always a good thing when we do!

It should be a great Sunday at both Oak Bridge Keller and Lindbergh (Check it out if you haven’t yet. The comments have been super.) Either choice, we worship our God together as one body of believers!

See you then!

In His Grace,
Tom

E-News from Tom: 04/05/10

Hello E-News Friends,

Wow, what a great day yesterday! We sang to, prayed to, and spoke about our Savior in record numbers. As over 1,300 attended our Oak Bridge services! You all must have put out a “divine invitation” to your friends and family. It was my prayer that God would meet with each of them in an unmistakable way. I hope He did just that for you as well.

If you were at Oak Bridge Keller for either service you saw the lines of people. (You might have been in those lines.) Please etch that memory in your mind. Lines formed to go into a place to excitedly learn about and worship our King!

I am asking each of you to pray for Oak Bridge Lindbergh as you call to mind those lines. Next year there will be no room for your invitees at OB Keller. If it wasn’t obvious to you before Sunday it should be to you now; we are simply at capacity for that location. What a great thing to be able to say!

Thank God that He has blessed with another location to pour ourselves into so that the Kingdom of God through Oak Bridge can continue to expand in our families and friends’ lives. Only God knows who and how many of His treasured children will eventually come to love His Son through the OB Lindbergh location, but we believe it can accommodate over 800 people before it reaches its capacity. Won’t that be a great day to celebrate!

The children’s area is in the last turn as it gets painted (see my PS on that) and carpeted this week. It will be a beautiful space for our children to learn about the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (yours and mine…and theirs).

Please pray for Herc and his teams as they are assembled over the summer for a major grand opening to the public in August. Pray for the role God wants you to play at OB Lindbergh. It will be a place of life-change for so many!

The words of Jesus:

"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33

He is RISEN!

I hope to see many of you in your “42” t-shirts next week. Thank God for forgiveness through His Son. What an amazing gift!

In His Grace,
Tom

PS We could use your help with painting this week at Oak Bridge Lindbergh. Each day from Tuesday through Thursday we will begin painting at 10:30. Any time you can donate to help would be appreciated. (You can imagine how bad I am at painting!) So we need you to overcome my shortcomings! All the paint stuff will be supplied.

E-News from Tom: 04/02/10

Hello E-News Friends,

Last night I witnessed a modern-day miracle. I watched the S.O.S. (Share Our Stuff) Team serve families by giving out a few hundred cookies, a hundred or so beverages and 20,000 diapers! That is no misprint, 20,000 diapers! 146 families showed up from over thirty zip codes in the metro area. The line began forming at 5:30 and by time the doors opened at 6:00 it was all the way down to the new kid’s area of the Oak Bridge Center. (It looked like a Wal-Mart on the morning after Thanksgiving!) When we closed for the evening at 8:30, we had no diapers left and every person got their full allotment. Only God could do that! All the people were very appreciative and touched by the generosity of Oak Bridge. I even have to admit that quite a few of the babies were cute (I mean as cute as a baby can be). You know what I mean. It was a memory that will be etched in my mind forever. (The event, not so much the babies.)

Most importantly, all of this pointed to our great God who loves them most! The Church on this evening was certainly the hands and feet of His Son to many who needed to feel His touch. Way to go!

Why don’t you see if God works a few more miracles this weekend? Invite someone to Oak Bridge for Easter. Pick them up. Buy them lunch. Get them an Easter basket. Tell them a free “42” T-shirt awaits them. Whatever makes sense to you. Now is a good time to leverage your influence. I am sure God has divine appointments planned with many of His children! Once again, you might hold their invitation.

As I write this I am once again humbled by the fact that God uses broken people like us to heal a broken world. It is such a great privilege to be part of what He is doing and going to do through His body (the Church) at Oak Bridge. PTL! (“Praise the Lord” for you who don’t speak Christianese.)

Like the song says, “Oh happy day, happy day. You washed my sins away!”

Happy Easter!
In His amazing grace,
Tom

PS It would sure help if many of you could worship our King at 10:45 at the Oak Bridge Center. It will be a great place to be and you will get a free John Ortberg book, as well as the awesomely cool “42” T-shirts!

PSS Remember tonight at the OBC—we’ll watch “The Passion of the Christ. It starts at 7:00. It will be a powerful evening! (Please keep kids under middle school age at home. The movie is intense.) We will take communion as well.
